Injury-plagued quarterback Cam Rising is facing another uncertain start against Arizona this Saturday, as his throwing hand continues to be a concern. Rising has sat out the past two games due to an injury sustained during the September 7 matchup against Baylor. This latest setback comes on the heels of a season-ending ACL tear in the Rose Bowl following the 2022 season.
Rising’s status will be reevaluated by the coaching staff prior to the Arizona game, with his ability to generate spin and velocity on the ball being the deciding factor in his participation. With a bye week approaching on October 11, the team may opt to prioritize Rising’s full recovery, allowing him to return to the field at 100% against Arizona State.
In Rising’s absence, freshman Isaac Wilson has stepped up, leading the team to victories over Utah State and Oklahoma State. While Wilson has shown flashes of brilliance, his inexperience has also been evident. In the Oklahoma State game, he threw for 207 yards on 17-of-29 passing, but also committed two interceptions. Against Utah State, he tossed three touchdowns and 239 yards.
