Manchester City’s manager is scrambling to find a solution to his team’s midfield woes following the loss of a key player due to injury. The 28-year-old Spanish midfielder suffered a severe knee injury in a recent match, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. In his absence, the team has struggled to secure wins, with a dismal record of 7 losses in 21 Premier League games.
The latest match against Newcastle saw City’s midfield trio of Mateo Kovacic, Ilkay Gündogan, and Rico Lewis fail to impress, despite avoiding defeat with a 1-1 draw. The manager acknowledged that finding a suitable replacement for the injured player is a pressing concern.
“He’s not available, and it’s up to us to find a way to adapt,” the manager said. “Kovacic, Bernardo, and Rico did their best, but we need to find a solution. I wish our injured player was here, but we have to move forward.”
The manager also downplayed concerns about a potential injury to star striker Erling Haaland, who received treatment on his ankle during the game. Despite some visible blood on his sock, Haaland completed the match, and the manager seemed unconcerned about the issue.
“He’s got a knock, and we’ll assess it further,” the manager said. “But for now, we’re focusing on finding a way to overcome our midfield challenges.”
