The Seattle squad is gearing up for a pivotal Monday night showdown against the Detroit Lions, but they’ll be without several key defensive players. Running back Ken Walker III is set to make his return, but the team will be missing four crucial defenders, including two defensive linemen and two outside linebackers.
The sidelined players include defensive linemen Leo Wilson and Bryce Martin, as well as outside linebackers Victor Brooks and Ethan Hall. Inside linebacker Julian Sanchez is listed as questionable. All four absent defenders are starters, with the exception of Martin, a first-round pick who played a significant role in the team’s first two games before suffering a hamstring injury.
Wilson, the team’s highest-paid defensive player, sustained a rib injury in the previous game, while Hall aggravated a pre-existing knee injury. Brooks, the team’s top edge defender, missed the first three games due to an MCL sprain.
Despite the setbacks, coach Mike McCarthy remains optimistic, emphasizing the importance of team depth. “When you have players who are unable to participate, it creates opportunities for others to step up,” McCarthy said. “We’re excited to see how these players will respond to the challenge.”
The team’s 3-0 start has been impressive, but it’s come against less-than-stellar competition. The Lions, who are 2-1, pose a stiffer test, and the Seahawks will need to dig deep to overcome the absences on defense.
Walker, who missed the past two games with an oblique injury, is ready to return, according to McCarthy. “He’s looked sharp in practice,” the coach said. Sanchez, who was limited in practice, is also expected to play.
McCarthy downplayed the severity of the injuries, saying none of them are long-term concerns. The team will need to rely on its depth and resilience to overcome the challenges ahead.
