Los Angeles Quarterback Nears Return to Action
Despite lingering concerns over a high ankle sprain, Los Angeles quarterback Justin Herbert is poised to take the field on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. According to sources, Herbert has made significant progress throughout the week, finishing practice without any setbacks and feeling noticeably better than he did last week.
Herbert initially suffered the ankle sprain in Week 2, which forced him to miss two days of practice ahead of the team’s Week 3 matchup against the Steelers. Although he started the game, he aggravated the injury in the third quarter and was unable to finish. The quarterback was spotted wearing a walking boot after the loss, but has since made a concerted effort to rehabilitate the injury.
“I’m feeling better than I did last week,” Herbert said in a recent interview. “As long as we keep moving forward and making progress, I think we’re heading in the right direction.” Unlike the previous week, Herbert participated in every practice session this week, albeit in a limited capacity.
The team had considered resting Herbert for this week’s game, taking advantage of their upcoming Week 5 bye to allow him additional time to recover. However, Herbert expressed his desire to play, citing his faith in the team’s backup players and his own ability to manage the injury.
“I don’t think worrying about it does much good,” Herbert said. “I’ll take it day by day and see how it feels. If it becomes an issue, then it’s not safe to play, but it has gotten better.” Herbert’s return will be crucial for the team, particularly with left tackle Rashawn Slater ruled out and right tackle Joe Alt listed as doubtful.
