In the midst of a two-game losing streak, the Dallas Cowboys are re-examining their approach to the game. Cornerback Jourdan Lewis emphasized the importance of attention to detail, stating that the team’s lack of focus is what’s holding them back. “You gotta be detailed,” Lewis said. “We got to see how we can stop people. At the end of the day, this is about us stopping people. We got to be credible, accountable every single play.”
Quarterback Dak Prescott echoed Lewis’ sentiments, highlighting the need for professionalism in their preparation. “It’s a job, and being prepared for every part of the job, however it may come,” Prescott said. “We just have to be more focused. That’s what, to me, on offense where we haven’t been as focused as we should.”
The Cowboys’ struggles on defense have been particularly glaring, with opposing quarterbacks attempting only 31 passes in the past two weeks. Edge rusher Micah Parsons attributed the issues to players trying to be “Superman,” while defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence described their play as “little league” football.
Defensive tackle Linval Joseph added that players are trying to play “hero ball,” rather than focusing on their individual roles. “We need guys that’s going to do their 1/11th, do their job,” Joseph said.
As the team prepares to face the New York Giants on Thursday, they’re aware that they need to improve their run defense, which has been exploited in recent games. The Giants’ leading rusher, Devin Singletary, is averaging 4.7 yards per carry, and the Cowboys will need to be more disciplined in their approach to contain him.
Despite their 12-game winning streak against the Giants, the Cowboys are taking nothing for granted. “It’s a new season. It’s a new football team,” Lewis said. “New things we got to get better at. Well, same things we got to get better at. Be detailed.”
