The sports world is buzzing with excitement as the stage is set for the biggest game of the year. The Footy crew dives into the impressive stats of Isaac Heeney, Errol Gulden, and Chad Warner, exploring how their goal-scoring prowess can give them the edge they need to take home the championship title against Brisbane.

Meanwhile, the officiating team is gearing up for the big day. Nick Foot, a seasoned umpire with 238 games under his belt, will make his Grand Final debut at the iconic MCG on Saturday. He’ll be joined by veterans Craig Fleer, Simon Meredith, and Matt Stevic, who boast a combined total of 1,693 games and 137 finals between them.

Matt Stevic, a stalwart with 498 games and 59 finals to his name, will umpire his 11th consecutive Grand Final and 12th overall. Simon Meredith, another seasoned pro with 498 games and 50 finals under his belt, will blow the whistle in his ninth Grand Final. Craig Fleer will umpire his second grand final, following his debut in the historic 2020 decider.

The selected umpires have been praised for their outstanding performance this season. “Nick, Matt, Simon, and Craig have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication,” said Laura Kane, football boss. “I’d also like to extend my gratitude to every umpire who has contributed to the AFL this season. From timekeepers to ball stewards, it takes a village to make the biggest game of the year possible.”

Rounding out the officiating team are boundary umpires Matt Tomkins, Matthew Konetschka, Michael Barlow, and Daniel Field-Read, as well as goal umpires Matthew Dervan and Sam Walsh. Emergency officials Andrew Stephens, Damien Main, and Steven Piperno stand ready to step in if needed. Piperno, who suffered a nasty injury in a recent match when a spectator threw a bottle that struck him, is making a remarkable comeback.
