**Sports Update: Lions’ Tight End Sidelined with Ankle Injury**
In a recent matchup against the Cardinals, Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta suffered a setback, injuring his ankle during a crucial play in the second quarter. According to sources, tests have confirmed a low ankle sprain, alleviating concerns of a more severe high ankle sprain.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell addressed the media, stating, “He had an ankle sprain,” and later added that LaPorta’s status is day to day. The tight end’s injury occurred while blocking downfield on a hook-and-ladder touchdown play, resulting in him being carted off the field just before halftime.
Despite his valiant effort to return in the second half, LaPorta was visibly hindered by the injury. This season, he has struggled to replicate his impressive rookie year performance, where he set a record for most catches (86) by a rookie tight end in league history. So far, he has managed only eight receptions for 94 yards in three games, also hampered by a hamstring injury during training camp that kept him sidelined for nearly two weeks.
As the Lions look to regroup and move forward, LaPorta’s recovery will be closely monitored, with fans eagerly awaiting his return to the field.
