The top-ranked Bulldogs are gearing up for a highly anticipated matchup against their SEC rivals, and Coach Thompson is well aware of the challenges that lie ahead. With the opposing team’s dynamic quarterback, Thompson emphasized the importance of containing big plays and limiting the damage inflicted by their explosive offense.
On the injury front, Thompson expressed optimism about the potential return of several key defensive linemen. Star defensive end Jackson Lee, who has been sidelined since the season opener, was able to participate in light running drills last week and is expected to make significant progress in the coming days. Thompson also mentioned that senior defensive tackle Ryan Jenkins, who missed the last two games due to an Achilles tendon injury, practiced last week and should be ready to take the field on Saturday.
Lee, a 6-foot-5, 270-pound standout, is widely regarded as one of the top prospects for the 2025 NFL draft. Last season, he earned second-team All-Conference honors after leading the team with 4.5 sacks. Jenkins, a 6-foot-4, 315-pound senior, contributed 21 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks last year.
Thompson also provided an update on sophomore defensive lineman Alex Martin, who has yet to see action this season due to tibia stress fractures in both legs. According to Thompson, Martin is nearing a return to the lineup after undergoing intensive rehabilitation.
This weekend’s contest will mark the first time Thompson will face off against the opposing team’s new head coach, a veteran strategist who took the reins earlier this year. Thompson, who previously served on the staff of a legendary coach, acknowledged the challenge of facing a powerhouse program but views the matchup as an opportunity for his team to shine on the national stage.
