A devastating blow has struck the Detroit Lions’ defensive line as Marcus Davenport, a seasoned defensive end, is likely to miss the remainder of the season due to a severe triceps injury. According to insiders, Davenport suffered a torn triceps during the team’s thrilling victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
Although Coach Dan Campbell expressed optimism that Davenport would seek additional medical opinions, the outlook appears grim for the 28-year-old veteran. What’s more, Davenport’s injury is not an isolated incident; he has struggled with various ailments throughout his career. Since entering the league as a first-round draft pick in 2018, Davenport has been limited to just 63 appearances across five seasons.
In a related development, linebacker Derrick Barnes is expected to be sidelined for an extended period due to a knee injury sustained during the same game. Meanwhile, tight end Sam LaPorta (ankle) and safety Brian Branch (concussion) are listed as day-to-day, with Branch currently undergoing concussion protocol.
The Lions had high hopes for Davenport, signing him to a one-year, $7.095 million contract in free agency earlier this year. Despite missing Week 2 with a groin injury, he showed promise in the season opener, recording a half sack in the Lions’ overtime win against the Los Angeles Rams. Unfortunately, his latest injury setback will likely keep him out of action for the remainder of the season.
