**College Sports Realignment Shake-Up**
In a thrilling matchup, Temple secured its first win of the season with a convincing 45-29 triumph over Utah State. Meanwhile, in a stunning development, Utah State has agreed to join a prominent athletic conference, becoming the seventh member of the newly restructured league.
This move comes on the heels of a chaotic day of realignment, marked by a flurry of negotiations and rejections. Despite initial interest in several American Athletic Conference schools, the conference ultimately turned its attention to Utah State. The Aggies’ decision to leave the Mountain West Conference was influenced by the uncertainty surrounding the commitments of other schools, including Air Force and UNLV.
Utah State’s addition to the conference marks the fifth school to make the transition from the Mountain West, joining Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State, and Colorado State. The Aggies boast a strong football program, having claimed a Mountain West championship in 2021 and appearing in 11 bowl games since 2011. Their basketball program is equally impressive, with 24 NCAA tournament appearances, including four in the past five years.
As the college sports landscape continues to shift, Utah State’s move is a significant development in the ongoing realignment saga. With the Mountain West Conference now left with seven schools, it will need to add at least one new member to maintain its official conference status.
