In a thrilling display of power and speed, 22-year-old phenom Elly De La Cruz etched his name into the record books during the Cincinnati Reds’ dominant 7-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday. De La Cruz’s impressive feat came when he smashed his 25th home run of the season, a towering three-run blast that landed just shy of the upper deck in right field, putting the Reds up 6-0.
The multi-talented slugger finished the game with an impressive three-hit performance, including a double, and drove in four crucial runs. This remarkable achievement places De La Cruz alongside esteemed Reds legends Eric Davis and Barry Larkin as the only players in franchise history to combine 25 home runs with 65 stolen bases in a single season.
“It’s an incredible honor to be mentioned alongside those legendary players,” De La Cruz humbly acknowledged. “I’m thrilled to have finished the season on such a high note.”
De La Cruz’s electrifying performance didn’t stop there. On Friday night, he swiped his 65th base of the season, marking his 100th career stolen base in just 251 games. Additionally, he became only the third player in major league history to amass 35 doubles, 25 home runs, and 60 stolen bases in a single campaign, joining elite company alongside Atlanta’s Ronald Acuña Jr. (2023) and Cincinnati’s Joe Morgan (1973).
