In the world of rugby league, a remarkable milestone is about to be achieved by a stalwart player. Isaah Yeo, the co-captain of the Penrith Panthers, is on the cusp of breaking a long-standing record as the team’s most-capped player. This impressive feat will be accomplished when he takes to the field for the 244th time in the upcoming preliminary final against Cronulla.
Yeo’s remarkable consistency and durability have been key factors in his ability to reach this milestone. Having debuted at just 19 years old, he has enjoyed an injury-free run, playing over 20 games in nine of his 11 seasons. The inspirational lock is quick to acknowledge his good fortune, saying, “I’ve been pretty lucky with injuries and that sort of stuff. I debuted young, that always helps.”
Despite his achievement, Yeo is humble and doesn’t expect to hold the record for long. He believes that the next generation of players, including talented youngsters Izack Tago, Jesse and Casey McLean, Luron Patea, and Blaize Talagi, will soon surpass him. These players have already committed to long-term deals with the Panthers, ensuring a bright future for the team.
Yeo’s teammates hold him in high esteem, praising his leadership, work ethic, and mentorship. Second-rower Liam Martin describes him as a “huge role model” who carries himself with humility and dedication. Five-eighth Jarome Luai, who will be leaving the team next season, affectionately refers to Yeo as the “father of our team” and “father of our club.”
As Yeo prepares to make history, he remains focused on the task at hand – helping his team secure a spot in the grand final. His milestone will be a testament to his hard work, dedication, and commitment to the Panthers.
