In a thrilling matchup at State Farm Stadium, the Detroit Lions secured a hard-fought 20-13 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, who caught a crucial pass and lateraled to Jahmyr Gibbs for a touchdown, acknowledged the win but emphasized the need for improvement on the offensive side.
“Our defense is playing lights out, but we need to step up our game on offense,” St. Brown said. “Twenty points is a good start, but we know we can do better. We’re not satisfied with just winning; we want to dominate.”
The Lions have now won nine consecutive games following a loss, a testament to their resilience and determination. St. Brown led the team with seven receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown, while Coach Dan Campbell praised the team’s identity and ability to bounce back from adversity.
“We’ve got the right players, the right coaches, and the right mindset,” Campbell said. “We’re a team that can adapt and win in different ways, whether it’s through the air, on the ground, or with our defense leading the way.”
Despite averaging 20.7 points per game, which ranks 13th in the league, the Lions’ offense has yet to reach its full potential. The team’s 38.5% red zone efficiency is a concern, but they showed improvement against the Cardinals, with running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery both scoring touchdowns.
Left tackle Taylor Decker acknowledged that there’s still room for growth, but he’s optimistic about the team’s prospects. “We haven’t played a complete game yet, but we’re getting better,” Decker said. “If we can keep playing complementary football, the sky’s the limit for us.”
Quarterback Jared Goff threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns, but also committed his fourth interception of the season. Despite this, the Lions’ defense shone, nearly pitching a second-half shutout against the Cardinals.
As the team looks to build on this win, the offense is focused on catching up to the defense’s high standards. “We’re a team that can win in different ways,” Goff said. “We just need to keep adapting and improving, and we’ll be unstoppable.”
