The familiar tale of gridiron glory and frustration. As fans, we were electrified to witness the dynamic performances of Caleb, Rome, Keenan, Swift, DJ, and Cole take center stage. Yet, in the end, it was the stalwart defense and special teams that stole the show, providing the crucial scoring and making all the difference. This was a throwback to the classic, hard-nosed football that has defined the franchise since its inception. While we’re thrilled with the outcome, we can’t help but wonder what could’ve been if the script had unfolded differently.
We anticipated some growing pains for the offense, but this was no minor hiccup. It was more like hitting a roadblock on the highway. The glaring absence of Cole Kmet, particularly after Keenan Allen’s injury scare, left many scratching their heads. The interior offensive line struggled mightily, with Shelton’s debut performance ranking among the most underwhelming in recent memory.
The importance of a strong start cannot be overstated. The team needs to capitalize on these early-season victories and maintain momentum. Ugly wins count just the same as pretty ones, and we must have faith that the offense will eventually find its rhythm. While the offense garnered most of the pre-season hype, it’s clear that this team is built for comprehensive success, with all three phases working in tandem.
However, the Bears won’t always be fortunate enough to face opponents like Will Levis, who gifted them opportunities. The team must rapidly improve to stay competitive, especially with a prime-time showdown in Houston looming on the horizon.
