A Presidential Inauguration Like No Other
As I reflect on the numerous presidential inaugurations I’ve witnessed, I’m struck by the uniqueness of the latest one. It was an event that defied convention, blending politics and entertainment in a way that was both captivating and cringe-worthy.
A Reality TV Star Takes Center Stage
The star of the show, a past and current President with a background in reality TV, brought an unconventional approach to the proceedings. It was as if he was hosting an episode of Celebrity Apprentice, complete with dramatic flair and unscripted moments. The audience, comprising some of the most influential people in the country, was treated to a spectacle that was equal parts fascinating and surreal.
A Who’s Who of Celebrities and Politicians
The event was attended by a diverse range of celebrities and politicians, each with their own unique reaction to the proceedings. Mark Zuckerberg was spotted sneaking glances at Jeff Bezos’ wife’s cosmetic surgeon’s handiwork, while Dana White gave side-eye to the two former Presidents as if considering booking them into the Octagon. Elon Musk, meanwhile, was seen making a bizarre gesture that left many scratching their heads.
A Show Like No Other
The tone of the event was set by the lead guy, who ad-libbed a line that left many in the audience feeling uncomfortable. It was a moment that was both memorable and cringe-worthy, and it set the stage for the rest of the proceedings. The event was a show in every respect, with all the drama and spectacle of a Hollywood production.
Live News Coverage Goes Off the Rails
The live news coverage of the event was equally unpredictable, with journalists struggling to keep up with the fast-paced and often surreal nature of the proceedings. Despite the challenges, they persevered, even when faced with the occasional FCC violation. However, it’s clear that they still have much to learn when it comes to dealing with drunks in bars and trolls on phone lines.
Trolling the Phone Lines
C-SPAN, in particular, fell victim to trolling, with callers bringing up topics as diverse as the College Football Playoff Selection Committee and the perceived injustices suffered by Notre Dame. While these calls may have been entertaining, they also highlighted the challenges of live news coverage in the age of social media.
A Glimmer of Hope
Despite the chaos and unpredictability of the event, there was a sense of hope in the air. As Americans, we are free to express ourselves, even if that means saying “Let’s fucking go!” on cable news or complaining about Alabama football while history unfolds before our eyes. As long as we can maintain this sense of freedom and humor, there may yet be a bright future ahead for the US of A.
