A Plea to the Football Gods: Keep Kliff Kingsbury in Washington
As the Washington team gears up for their prime-time playoff game on Sunday, I’m choosing to ignore the looming threat of Kliff Kingsbury’s potential departure. The whispers of him being courted by other teams, including the Bears and Saints, for their vacant head coaching positions are nothing but a distant hum in the background. At least, that’s what I’m telling myself.
The Perfect Storm in Washington
Kingsbury has found himself in the midst of a perfect storm in Washington. With Jayden thriving under his guidance, a talented wide receiver in Terry, and a head coach in Dan Quinn who trusts his instincts, the situation is ripe for success. Add to that an ownership group willing to open their wallets and a whopping $100 million in cap room this offseason, and it’s hard to imagine a more ideal setup for a coach to flourish.
Building a Legacy
While coaches often aspire to build their own head coaching legacies, I firmly believe Kingsbury can create a more lasting impact by sticking around Washington for the long haul. He’s already making waves as the team’s OC, and with time, he can cement his status as a mastermind of the game. Why sacrifice that for the uncertainty of a head coaching role elsewhere?
A Word of Caution
Five weeks ago, the narrative surrounding Kingsbury was vastly different. Critics claimed he ran a “college offense” and struggled to win in the second half of the season. Now, suddenly, everyone wants a piece of him? It’s laughable. I’ll take a hard pass on the hypocrisy, thank you very much.
Focused on the Present
For now, I’m choosing to focus on the present – the playoffs, the excitement of Sunday’s game, and the possibility of a deep postseason run. If Kingsbury decides to leave, I’ll wish him well. But until the season comes to a close, I’ll be ignoring the rumors and speculation. That’s my promise to you, dear fans.
