The Unbelievable Luck of the Chicago Blackhawks
A Franchise Built on Chance Encounters
Rewind the clock to January 4, 2007, when Patrik Stefan infamously missed an empty net goal in a Stars vs Oilers game. This seemingly insignificant moment had a profound impact on the NHL draft lottery that year. The Oilers earned an extra point, which ultimately led to the Chicago Blackhawks securing the 5th worst record and a chance to land the top overall pick.
A Stroke of Luck
Fast forward to the 2007 NHL Draft Lottery, where the Blackhawks jumped four spots to claim the 1st overall pick, selecting Patrick Kane. Kane went on to lead the Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup Championships, including a victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in 2010. It’s astonishing that Chicago fans don’t acknowledge the incredible luck that brought Kane to their team.
Lightning Strikes Twice
In a bizarre twist of fate, the Blackhawks repeated their luck in the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery, jumping two spots to select Connor Bedard with the 1st overall pick. Bedard is an offensively gifted player with a remarkable shot, despite his small stature. His production has been impressive, considering the lack of support from management.
Spoiled Rotten
You’d think Blackhawks fans would be eternally grateful for their good fortune. Instead, they’re complaining about not having Macklin Celebrini over Connor Bedard. It’s like Penguins fans wishing they had Wayne Gretzky instead of Mario Lemieux – both are franchise-altering talents. The Blackhawks’ fanbase has become spoiled, expecting more than they deserve.
A Warning Sign
Connor Bedard will eventually realize he deserves better than to be surrounded by unappreciative fans and alumni who cry about the past. He’ll likely seek a new team that values his talent. The Blackhawks should take heed, lest they lose another superstar due to their own greed and entitlement.
A Lesson in Appreciation
The Chicago Blackhawks would do well to remember the incredible luck that brought them Patrick Kane and Connor Bedard. Instead of complaining, they should be grateful for the opportunity to watch these talented players don their jersey. Otherwise, they might just find themselves watching Bedard thrive elsewhere.
