A Masterstroke of a Trade
The Washington Commanders have pulled off a coup, and it’s hard to argue otherwise. Swapping a few draft picks for two and a half seasons of elite cornerback Marshon Lattimore is a steal of epic proportions. The Saints may have gotten some promising young talent, but Lattimore’s impact on the Commanders’ defense is already being felt.
A Dominant Debut
Lattimore’s first game with the Commanders was a resounding success, despite still shaking off the rust from his injury. He locked down his half of the field, and his presence was a game-changer. Top-tier cornerbacks are a rare breed, and the Commanders have snagged one of the best.
A Tale of Two Halves
Quarterback Jayden had a Jekyll-and-Hyde performance, with a phenomenal first half and a more pedestrian second half. Despite being sacked eight times, he still managed to thread the needle and throw darts to his receivers. The connection between Jayden and Terry McLaurin is undeniable, and it’s a major reason the Commanders came out on top.
Overcoming Adversity
The Commanders’ offense was hamstrung by a porous O-line, the loss of Wentz early in the game, and a non-existent running game. Yet, Jayden still managed to put up impressive numbers, thanks in large part to his accuracy and poise under pressure.
A Coaching Conundrum
Kliff Kingsbury’s play-calling was a mixed bag, with some questionable decisions in the second half. However, it’s hard to criticize him too harshly, given the circumstances. A few deep shots to Terry McLaurin could have changed the complexion of the game, and it’s a risk worth taking.
A Season to Remember
At 9-5, the Commanders are exceeding expectations in their first year of rebuilding. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement, and rightfully so. With three regular season games left, the playoffs are within reach, and the future looks bright. It’s a great time to be a Commanders fan. HTTC!
