The Lunchtime Conundrum: Unraveling the Mystery of the Perfect Bite
As a self-proclaimed lunch enthusiast, I’ve spent years perfecting my craft. From ham sandwiches to roast beef, salami, and beyond, I’ve tried them all. But lately, I’ve become obsessed with diagonal cuts – and for good reason. The 43-47 degree angle has revolutionized my lunch game, offering a better balance of ingredients and chomping lanes.
A Game-Changing Epiphany
Just the other day, I savored a delectable ham sandwich with Swiss cheese and honey dijon on griddle-toasted sourdough. As I devoured the first half, I realized I wanted to truly enjoy the sandwich, not just inhale it like a savage. But then, a daunting question arose: where do I start?
The Anatomy of a Sandwich
I stared at the sandwich, compromising its structural integrity, unsure of where to take that first bite. The first half was sloppy, with too much crust in the last bite and too much ham in the second. It was a culinary catastrophe. As I reflected on my mistake, I began to analyze the sandwich like a baseball strategy.
The Four Corners of the Sandwich Universe
In my mind, corner 4 offered a better bite than corner 1, but corner 5 was the worst offender. Corners 2 and 3 were like baseball players – they should hit 2/3 because they’re better. Corner 5 could lead off, but it’s better suited for cleanup duty. Now, I was torn between corners 4 and 1.
The Sacrificial Bite
It dawned on me that corner 1 was making a sacrifice for every other bite. By taking a small bite into corner 1, everyone else gets instantly better. It’s like running the ball on 1st down to create 2nd and 6 and 3rd and short. You can’t take a shot downfield every play, or you’ll tip off the defense. Corner 1 sets the stage for a harmonious sandwich-eating experience.
Freestyling the Sandwich Sequence
From there, I think you can improvise your own sandwich sequence. Personally, I’m going 1-2-3/5/ into a 4. But I’m open to persuasion, as long as we agree that corner 1 is the starting point.
