The Overhead Space Excuse
Let’s get real – the argument that people in later groups are trying to snag overhead space is a weak one. If you didn’t splurge on priority boarding, you might have to check your bag at the gate. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles. It’s not an excuse to hold up the entire boarding process.
A Hierarchical Society
Air travel is all about hierarchy. If you’re in group F, you board in group F. It’s not rocket science. And yet, some travelers seem to think they’re exempt from these simple rules. Newsflash: if you can’t follow basic instructions, you’re not going to fare well in a system that relies on order and efficiency.
The Back-to-Front Boarding Myth
Some folks actually suggest boarding planes from back to front. Are you kidding me? That’s a recipe for disaster. If people can’t even manage to stow their personal items under the seat in front of them, what makes you think they’ll magically become organized and courteous when it comes to stashing their luggage?

Here’s a proposal: make the consequences for trying to board out of turn even more severe. If the alarm sounds, you’re banished to the back of the line – and those bags you were so worried about checking? Now they’re mandatory. That’s the only way we’ll achieve true harmony in the skies.
A Louder Alarm, Please
While we’re at it, can we please make that alarm even louder and more embarrassing? A Planet Fitness-style lunk alarm would be perfect. And why not add a voiceover that broadcasts the offender’s entitled behavior to the entire gate area? “I’m special, and I deserve to board early!” Yeah, good luck with that.
