Blinded by Bias: Reassessing Michigan Football
As I reflect on my past mistakes, I realize I’ve had a major blindspot when it comes to evaluating Michigan football. My bias was so strong that I made a reckless promise last season, which ultimately led to a humiliating moment on camera. Let’s just say it wasn’t my finest hour.
A Fresh Perspective
Despite Michigan’s impressive performance last year, including their National Championship win, I remained unconvinced about J.J. McCarthy’s abilities as a quarterback. However, his 10th overall draft pick by the Minnesota Vikings proved me wrong. It’s clear I don’t know everything about the game.
The Dilemma of Choosing Michigan
So, why would a top quarterback consider attending Michigan? The weather is cold, the team’s offense is run-heavy, and let’s be honest, their helmets aren’t the most stylish. Moreover, their old-school, physical brand of football seems less appealing compared to other programs. But, a substantial sum of money could be a game-changer.
Bryce Underwood: The Prize Recruit
Earlier today, news broke that Michigan is attempting to lure Bryce Underwood, the #1 ranked, 5-star quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class, with a staggering $10.5 million offer. Underwood, currently committed to LSU, is considered a phenomenal talent. While Michigan’s offer is enticing, it’s uncertain whether the money will sway him.
A Glimpse into Underwood’s Mind
Underwood’s recent Instagram story suggests he’s not easily swayed by Michigan’s offer. Perhaps an additional million or two could make a difference? Nonetheless, it’s a tough sell for Michigan.
The Battle for Underwood’s Commitment
Michigan does have one advantage – Underwood hails from Belleville, Michigan, making it a short drive from home. However, LSU is likely to offer a substantial sum as well. Furthermore, playing under an experienced coach like Brian Kelly at LSU might be more appealing than joining Michigan, which may still be facing cheating scandal sanctions.
The Unproven Coach
While Sherrone Moore seems like a great person, his lack of experience as a football coach poses a significant hurdle for Michigan. Can they overcome this obstacle and secure Underwood’s commitment? Only time will tell.
