Rebel Without a Plan: My Wild Ride of Self-Discovery and Chaos

Living Life on the Edge: A Wild Ride of Self-Discovery

My Plan to Buy Time Falls Apart

I thought I had found a sweet deal, living with Jay in his parent’s basement until September, when he would head back to Boston University. But things didn’t quite work out as planned. The basement had a separate entrance through the garage, and we needed a special key to unlock the door. One day, the brittle blue aluminum key snapped off inside the lock. I broke the news to Jay, but he wasn’t eager to tell his dad, Len. We left the door unlocked for days, until Jay finally worked up the courage to confess.

The Fallout from a Broken Key

Len was furious, but we managed to extract the broken key without calling a locksmith. I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking I had dodged a bullet. Little did I know, my troubles were just beginning.

A Night to Remember

One evening, Jay and his family attended a wedding, leaving me alone in the house. I took advantage of the situation and brought my girlfriend over. We had a great time, but things took a dramatic turn when I discovered water leaking from under the utility room door. The electric water heater was malfunctioning, and I had no idea how to fix it. I waited anxiously for Jay’s family to return, knowing I couldn’t reach Len for help.

The Aftermath of a Water Heater Failure

When Len finally arrived, he was drunk and furious. He berated me for not calling him immediately, but I had no way to contact him. He eventually called his plumber, Irv, who instructed him to shut off the electricity to the water heater and close the valve on top of the tank. The water heater was replaced the next morning, and I was relieved to learn that its failure was due to old age, not my negligence.

A New Set of Wheels

I decided to sell my motorcycle and Falcon to buy a navy blue ’68 GTO convertible. It was a fast car that my girlfriend and I loved driving around in. Jay and I also made some extra cash by selling weed to friends, but I eventually lost interest in the venture.

A Busted Operation

Jay and his brother decided to buy another pound of weed, but things didn’t go as planned. They got caught by their mom while bagging the weed in the garage. I tried to warn them, but they didn’t hear me. The three of them had a tense conversation with Len, who was already upset from the previous night’s events.

The Final Straw

The next evening, Len told me I had to leave the house by Sunday night. I didn’t ask why, knowing it was due to the weed bust. I was being unfairly blamed for Jay’s and his brother’s mistakes. I packed my bags, threw whatever didn’t fit in the trunk into the backseat, and hit the road.

A New Chapter Unfolds

I ended up at Bendinelli’s Variety in Sharon Center, wondering where I would sleep. That’s when Bambi, Moose’s younger brother, pulled up in his light blue Challenger. We had a good laugh, and he offered me a place to crash at his apartment in Foxboro. As I waited for him to make the call, I couldn’t help but think about the last time I spoke to Moose – I had threatened to kill him. My world was crashing down, but I still had my girlfriend and my beloved GTO. The adventure continues…
