Bayern Munich Coach Vincent Kompany Heaps Praise on Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal
Lamine Yamal, the 17-year-old sensation from Barcelona, has been making waves in the football world with his impressive performances. Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is the latest to sing his praises, calling him a potential replacement for the legendary Lionel Messi.
A Star in the Making
Yamal, who made his debut for Barcelona at just 15 years old, has already played over 60 times for the club, scoring five goals and providing six assists this season. His impressive form has earned him comparisons with Messi, and Kompany believes he has the potential to fill the void left by the Argentine superstar.
“For my generation, Messi was one of the key figures of our era,” Kompany said. “To shortly after this player leaving already have potentially a player who can replace him is quite unique.”
La Masia’s Finest
Kompany credits Barcelona’s academy, La Masia, for trusting young players like Yamal and giving them the chance to shine. “Full credit to La Masia for always trusting these players and giving them the chance,” he said. “But the question for us is not about stopping [Yamal], but trying to win a game against Barcelona, which means [stopping] all the players, not one.”
Pau Cubarsí: A Future Defensive Leader
Kompany also had high praise for another young Barcelona player, centre-back Pau Cubarsí. “He’s one of the future defensive leaders in world football for sure,” the Belgian coach said. “I was lucky to start my career very young, at a similar age, but to play every game at this level, not just representing Barça, but against this level of competition in a top five league and the Champions League, it’s very special, very rare.”
A Test of Managerial Credentials
Wednesday’s game between Bayern Munich and Barcelona will be a test of Kompany’s managerial credentials against a Barça side coached by ex-Bayern boss Hansi Flick. “Hansi was not just a coach at Bayern, he was a very successful coach, a person that represented the club in a way that is still spoken about today,” Kompany said.
Joshua Kimmich: A Potential Move to Barça?
Meanwhile, Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich refused to rule out a move to Barça next summer when his contract expires. “It’s always special to play against Barcelona,” the German international said. “Of course I have seen my name linked with Barça in the past, but it’s not a special game for that reason, simply because they’re a huge club.”
