Cubs’ Nico Hoerner Undergoes Off-Season Surgery
Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner has taken the first step towards a successful 2025 season. The 27-year-old underwent surgery on his right hand, specifically a right flexor tendon operation, on October 11. Dr. Keith Meister performed the procedure.
A Promising Career
Despite the setback, Hoerner’s career is on an upward trajectory. This season, he batted .273 with seven home runs, 48 RBIs, and 31 steals in a career-high 151 games. His impressive form continued into the final stretch of the season, hitting .346 (45-for-130) in his last 34 games.
Team Performance
Although Hoerner’s individual performance was strong, the Cubs ultimately fell short of the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. The team finished with a record of 83-79, identical to their previous season.
Background and Achievements
Hoerner was selected by the Cubs in the first round of the 2018 amateur draft from Stanford University. He made his major league debut in 2019 and has since become a key player for the team. In March 2023, he signed a three-year contract worth $35 million, which runs through the 2026 season. Hoerner’s impressive defensive skills earned him a Gold Glove award in 2023.
Looking Ahead
With his surgery complete, Hoerner can focus on rehabilitation and preparation for the upcoming season. As a crucial member of the Cubs’ lineup, his return to full fitness will be eagerly anticipated by fans and teammates alike.
