Rutgers Lands Top-50 Forward Chris Nwuli
In a major recruiting coup, Rutgers University has secured a commitment from top-50 forward Chris Nwuli, the program’s first ESPN 100 prospect of the 2025 class. The 6-foot-7 forward, ranked No. 41 in the ESPN 100, chose the Scarlet Knights over other top programs, citing the coaching staff’s welcoming nature and his desire to play on the East Coast.
A Perfect Fit
Nwuli’s decision to join Rutgers was influenced by the program’s late push, with the coaching staff extending a scholarship offer in late September. Despite not being included on Nwuli’s initial list of six finalist schools in August, the Scarlet Knights’ coaching staff, led by Steve Pikiell, made a lasting impression on the talented forward. “I love the energy of the staff,” Nwuli told ESPN. “Coach Pikiell breathes basketball, and he cares about his players.”
Explosive Athlete
Nwuli is widely regarded as one of the most explosive athletes in the senior class, boasting quick-twitch ability and great burst and elevation. His second jump is particularly effective, allowing him to score easy points on putbacks or block shots at the other end. A versatile defender with lateral quickness and the ability to cover ground, Nwuli is also a lob threat, especially in transition.
Proven Track Record
Nwuli’s credentials are impressive, having played alongside top recruits A.J. Dybantsa and Tyran Stokes with the Oakland Soldiers on the Nike EYBL circuit. He averaged 9.5 points and 5.9 rebounds during the regular season, before putting up 12.5 points and 4.4 rebounds at the Nike Peach Jam in July. He also showed range out to the perimeter, making better than 47% from behind the arc.
Building a Strong Class
Nwuli’s commitment marks the third top-50 recruit for Rutgers in the past two classes, joining elite prospects Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper in 2024. He joins a 2025 class that includes three-star center Gevonte Ware, Lino Mark, and Kaden Powers, as the Scarlet Knights continue to build a strong foundation for the future.
