United Cup Mixed Team Tournament: A Star-Studded Lineup
The third edition of the United Cup mixed team tournament is set to kick off in Sydney and Perth at the start of next season, with a stellar lineup of tennis stars. Top seed the United States will face off against neighboring Canada in the group stage, marking Coco Gauff’s debut in the tournament.
Gauff Leads a Strong US Team
World No. 3 Gauff will be joined by Taylor Fritz, Denis Kudla, Robert Galloway, Desirae Krawczyk, and Danielle Collins on the US team. Collins recently reversed her decision to retire at the end of the 2024 season, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition.
Tournament Draw Revealed
At Monday’s draw, the Americans were pitted against an as-yet-undecided nation in Group A, which will be played out in Perth. The 17th and 18th teams will be decided based on the rankings of November 19. Notably, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic has opted not to participate in the tournament as part of his preparations for the Australian Open.
Reigning Champions Germany Face Stiff Competition
Reigning champion Germany, led by world No. 3 Alexander Zverev, will face China and Brazil in Group E, also in Perth. Zverev is expected to be the highest-ranked man in the tournament, with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz absent.
Poland and Australia Gear Up for Strong Showings
Poland, runner-up last year, will play its Group B matches against the Czech Republic and Norway in Sydney, with five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek leading the charge. Host Australia, spearheaded by Alex De Minaur, will play its Group F matches in Sydney against Britain and the other as-yet-undecided nation.
