Avalanche Make Roster Moves Amid Injury Concerns
The Colorado Avalanche have been forced to make some adjustments to their lineup due to an upper-body injury sustained by forward Jonathan Drouin. The 29-year-old has been placed on injured reserve, paving the way for veteran forward Chris Wagner to join the team from the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League.
Drouin’s Injury Woes
Drouin’s injury dates back to the season opener against the Vegas Golden Knights on October 9. The third overall pick in the 2013 NHL draft has been a significant contributor to the teams he has played for, including the Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, and Avalanche. With 337 points (96 goals, 241 assists) in 565 games, his absence will undoubtedly be felt.
Wagner Brings Experience to the Table
Chris Wagner, an 11-year veteran, has been called up to fill the void left by Drouin. Wagner has played two games this season in his second stint with Colorado and brings a wealth of experience to the team. A fifth-round draft pick of Anaheim in 2010, he has notched 65 points (38 goals, 27 assists) in 375 games with various teams, including the Ducks, Islanders, Bruins, and Avalanche.
Avalanche Look to Regroup
As the Avalanche navigate this early-season setback, they will look to Wagner to provide a spark and help the team regain its footing. With Drouin’s return date uncertain, the team will need to rely on its depth and resilience to stay competitive in the highly contested NHL landscape.
