The Double Life of Doug Gottlieb: A Tale of Mediocrity and Audacity

The Art of Mailing It In: A Cautionary Tale of Doubling Down on Mediocrity

A Personal History with a Polarizing Figure

I must confess, I was once the self-proclaimed biggest critic of Doug Gottlieb, a man who seemed to embody the phrase “all talk, no walk.” His condescending attitude, coupled with a questionable past, made him an easy target for ridicule. Who could forget the infamous incident at Notre Dame, where he was accused of stealing his roommate’s credit card, leading to felony theft charges?

A Checkered Past

The LA Times reported that Gottlieb faced a possible three-year prison term and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted. Although he ultimately avoided severe punishment, the incident left a lasting stain on his reputation. I, for one, took great pleasure in calling him out on his show, only to be subsequently banned. Our verbal sparring continued on The Dozen, but eventually, we put our differences aside during my rehabilitation process.

The Saga Continues: A Tale of Two Paychecks

Fast-forward to the present, and Gottlieb finds himself at the center of another controversy. This time, he’s opted to skip team practice to attend Super Bowl media day, sparking widespread criticism. As a credentialed member of the media, I’m compelled to report on his antics, and it’s hard not to admire his audacity. He’s managed to secure two paychecks while performing subpar in both roles – a feat that would make even the most laid-back individuals envious.

A Crossroads: Coaching or Radio?

However, Gottlieb’s juggling act is unsustainable. He must choose between his coaching gig and radio show, as his lack of dedication to either is glaringly apparent. His coaching career has been marked by struggles, and it’s clear he’s not cut out for the role. The Horizon League, where he currently coaches, is a far cry from the top-tier programs he once aspired to join. Perhaps it’s time for him to swallow his pride and focus on radio, where his bombastic personality might find a better fit.

A Word of Advice (That Will Likely Fall on Deaf Ears)

As someone who’s followed Gottlieb’s career, I implore him to reevaluate his priorities. Continuing down this path will only lead to embarrassment and potential termination. It’s time to pick a lane and commit to it, rather than risking further ridicule and damage to his already-tarnished reputation.
