A New Era in the Big Easy?
The New Orleans Saints may have finally found their savior in Kellen Moore, the Philadelphia Eagles’ current offensive coordinator. In a bold move, the Saints’ ownership flew to Philly on Monday to interview Moore for the second time, and by all accounts, the meeting went extremely well.
A Waiting Game
However, the Saints will have to wait until after the Eagles’ Super Bowl showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs next Sunday to make the official announcement. Coincidentally, the big game is taking place in New Orleans, which might just convince Moore to stay put.
Behind the Scenes
Meanwhile, Mike McCarthy, a strong contender for the job, has already announced that he won’t be coaching next year, hinting that Moore is the top choice. It’s no secret that McCarthy was eager to take the reins, but the Saints had other plans, opting for a younger candidate. Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury also withdrew his name from the running, reportedly to stay in DC and work with quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Can Moore Succeed?
While Moore boasts an impressive track record as an offensive mind, the Saints’ situation is far from ideal. With an aging roster and salary cap constraints, the road ahead will be tough. Still, Moore’s experience as an OC for many years has prepared him for the top job. The Saints could have done worse, but it’s essential to temper expectations.
A Glimmer of Hope
The only silver linings are the exclusive nature of the head coaching position – there are only 32 in the world – and the relatively weak NFC South division. If anyone can turn things around, it’s Moore. But for now, Saints fans should remain cautiously optimistic.
