Baseball’s Greatest Snub: The Case for Andres Galarraga

The Unjust Snubbing of Andres Galarraga

As the baseball world eagerly awaits the announcement of the latest Hall of Fame inductees, a glaring omission has left me seething. Amidst the sea of esteemed baseball writers sharing their ballots, not a single mention has been made of the illustrious career of Andres Galarraga. This egregious oversight is a slap in the face, and it’s high time someone spoke out.

A Career Worth Recognizing

Galarraga’s impressive résumé boasts 399 home runs, including a remarkable 42 in 1988. Add to that seven Top 10 MVP finishes, two Gold Gloves, and a 114 Batting score in the Hall of Fame Monitor – a testament to his exceptional skill. While some might argue that his home run tally was inflated by playing in Colorado’s hitter-friendly stadium, it’s worth noting that Todd Helton, who played in the same stadium, earned a spot in Cooperstown with fewer home runs.

The Expos Factor

Galarraga’s time with the Montreal Expos adds a unique layer of cool to his legacy. The Expos, often overlooked in baseball lore, deserve more representation in the Hall of Fame. And who wouldn’t want to see more Expos hats proudly worn in Cooperstown?

The Case for Galarraga

While Galarraga may not be a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame, his impressive stats and memorable nickname, “The Big Cat,” warrant at least some recognition. It’s time for someone to champion his cause, highlighting his achievements and questioning the legitimacy of those who may have taken his place in the Hall.

A Tangent: Eli Manning’s Inevitable Enshrinement

On a related note, Eli Manning’s eventual induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame is sure to ruffle feathers. As I begin planning my trip to Canton, I can already hear the collective groan from fans outside of New York.
