The NBA’s Three-Point Frenzy: A Recipe for Disaster or Success?
The Chicago Bulls and Charlotte Hornets have set a new standard for three-point futility, combining to miss an astonishing 75 three-point attempts not once, but twice in the span of two weeks. The latest installment of this shooting debacle ended with the Bulls emerging victorious in overtime, 115-108.
A Tale of Two Teams
The Bulls’ 18-of-60 performance from behind the three-point arc was matched by the Hornets’ dismal 10-of-43 showing. This marks the second time in NBA history that two teams have combined to miss 75 three-pointers in a single game. The Bulls’ 42 missed three-pointers are tied for the sixth-most in NBA history, a feat they’ve achieved twice this season.
A Record-Breaking Pace
With the Bulls ranked second in both three-pointers made and taken this season, they’re on pace to shatter their own record for misses. In fact, they may well break the record for most missed three-pointers by a winning team, set by the Houston Rockets in 2019. Despite their struggles from deep, the Bulls are still averaging 117.6 points per game, good for seventh in the league.
The Entertainment Factor
While some NBA enthusiasts, like Greenie, argue that this season’s level of play has been exciting and entertaining, others can’t help but feel that the constant barrage of missed three-pointers is more akin to watching paint dry. The Bulls and Hornets’ combined 28-of-103 performance from three-point land is hardly thrilling, especially when compared to their 22-of-97 showing just two weeks prior.
A Different Kind of Excitement
However, it’s worth noting that the arena was packed, and the game was intense and closely contested. Perhaps, for some, the thrill of the game lies not in the shooting percentages, but in the electric atmosphere and the uncertainty of the outcome. As the Bulls continue to bomb away from deep, one thing is certain – their offense will remain afloat, even if it’s not always pretty to watch.
