Private Flight Fiasco: When Money Can’t Buy You Time
Imagine having the luxury of flying private, only to find out that even with deep pockets, you can’t always get what you want. This was the harsh reality for several Southern Methodist University (SMU) boosters who were headed to State College, Pennsylvania to watch their team take on Penn State in the College Football Playoff.
Airport Congestion Causes Chaos
As it turns out, the State College airport was at maximum capacity, leaving no room for the private planes to land. With kickoff just hours away, the desperate boosters were forced to think outside the box – or in this case, the cockpit. They called in a party bus to transport them from Williamsport to Happy Valley, but not before facing a daunting hour-long delay.
The Unforeseen Consequences of Flying Private
It’s surprising to learn that even with an approved flight plan, landing at a specific airport is not always a guarantee. One would think that having the means to fly private would grant access to any airport, but apparently, that’s not the case. The question remains: why did these affluent fans cut it so close to begin with?
A Silver Lining Amidst the Chaos
As it turned out, the delayed arrival might have been a blessing in disguise. The SMU boosters missed the disastrous first quarter and a half, which saw Kevin Jennings throw three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Perhaps the arrival of Bryson DeChambeau and Craig James would bring a much-needed turnaround for the Mustangs in the second half.
The Unpredictability of Private Travel
This unexpected turn of events serves as a reminder that even with unlimited resources, there are some things that are simply beyond our control. While flying private may offer unparalleled convenience and luxury, it’s not immune to the unpredictability of air travel.
