The Agony of Defeat: A Lamentation of Sad Stats
As a die-hard Chicago Bears fan, I’ve grown accustomed to disappointment. But Sunday’s debacle was a special kind of pain. It’s as if the universe decided to remind me that, yes, everything can always get worse.
A Familiar Feeling
The Bears’ four first-half yards against the Vikings were a cruel joke. It was like reliving a bad dream, only this time with a different cast of characters. Even the usually reliable Fox Sports got it wrong, reporting the Bears had -1 yards in 1998 (it was actually the Vikings). Mistakes happen, folks!
Deja Vu All Over Again
A glance at the Bears’ drives in both games reveals an eerie similarity. Five first-half punts, followed by a touchdown, turnover, and another touchdown. It’s like the NFL scriptwriters decided to reuse an old plot. We’ve seen this movie before, and it doesn’t end well.
The Interim Coach Conundrum
Interim head coaches now boast a dismal 34-62 record in their first game after a coaching change. Sorry, Thomas Brown – it seems the odds were against you from the start. That “let’s put all four receiving options together” play? Yeah, that didn’t exactly inspire confidence.
Drew Lock’s Quarterback Quagmire
Drew Lock’s 0-8 passing performance in the first quarter was a sight to behold. Saints fans, don’t laugh too hard – your team was one blocked field goal away from disaster. And yes, Drew Lock did lead the Saints down the field, but that’s beside the point.
Browns vs. Steelers: A Rivalry of Futility
The Browns haven’t swept the Steelers since 1988. Remember when George Pickens said the snow game was the reason for their first loss? Yeah, that sounds about right. Did you know the Cardinals swept the Cowboys in 1989, and the Buccaneers swept the Vikings in 1990? Yeah, me neither. The catch? Those division matchups aren’t even division matchups anymore!
Saquon Barkley’s Frustrating Season
Saquon Barkley leads the league with 14 plays stopped at the 1-yard line. It’s infuriating for fantasy football enthusiasts. He’s been the best player this season, but somehow always seems to get stuck in neutral.
The Bears’ Late-Game Woes
The Bears are a dismal 1-8 in late 4:25 pm slate games since 2020. It’s like they have a knack for self-destruction when the spotlight is on them. Well, at least there were plenty of points scored in the Rams/Bills game to distract us from the pain.
That’s all for Week 14. Better days are ahead… or so we hope. Send me your sad stat suggestions and ideas @StatholeSports. See you next week!
