Jamie Foxx Sets the Record Straight on His Mysterious Medical Ordeal
A Brush with Death
Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx is opening up about his recent health scare, revealing that he was “literally seconds and moments away from death” when he collapsed in April 2023. The actor, 56, shared the harrowing experience during his Netflix special, “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…”, which streams on December 10.
Exhaustion Takes Its Toll
According to audience member Demecos Chambers, who attended an October taping of the special in Atlanta, Foxx attributed his collapse to pure exhaustion. “His body was just exhausted due to him getting up there in age, and his body just faltering out on him,” Chambers recalled Foxx sharing onstage.
A Coma and a Guitar
Foxx’s ordeal took a dramatic turn when he passed out in an elevator, thinking he was only out for a few moments. However, he was actually in a coma for several weeks. During that time, one of his daughters would play the guitar for him daily, which Foxx credits with helping him regain consciousness. “She’s playing one of their favorite songs or whatever on a daily basis. And he said that’s the only thing that he could recall hearing in his sleep, and it brought him essentially out of his coma,” Chambers revealed.
Rehab and Recovery
After waking up, Foxx underwent rehabilitation to regain his motor skills. Despite the seriousness of his experience, the special isn’t all somber, says Chambers. “While he’s telling the story, he’s throwing bits in there left and right… He’s dancing a little bit. He’s playing songs on the piano.”
A Controversial Claim
During the special, Foxx also made headlines by alleging that Diddy was responsible for his hospitalization. However, it’s unclear whether the comment was meant as a joke or a serious accusation. Multiple eyewitnesses have come forward with conflicting accounts of what Foxx said, leaving audiences to decide for themselves when the special drops.
A Talented Human
Jamie Foxx is known for his impressive range of talents, from music to comedy to acting. In a recent podcast interview, he shared inspiring stories about his childhood, including how his grandmother taught him to play the piano and encouraged him to work hard to achieve his goals. With his new special, Foxx is set to entertain and enlighten audiences once again.
