The Unfair Exclusion of a Basketball Giant
A Crime Against College Hoops
It’s a travesty that Olivier Rioux, the 7’9″ sensation, is being denied valuable court time. Every moment he’s on camera, fans go wild, and it’s a shame we’re not getting enough of it. The decision to redshirt him is a missed opportunity for college basketball.
Good for the Sport
I’m firmly in the camp that any buzz around college basketball is a positive. Let’s be real, for most people, the season is just a brief seven-week window from February to early April. So, bring on the excitement! Give me fans losing their minds over Rioux’s towering presence, even if it’s just for a minute or two during a blowout.
Florida’s Missed Chance
With Florida not facing any tough opponents until the SEC season starts, we could’ve seen more of Rioux in action. I want to see him play, and I want to see fans erupt when he dunks effortlessly. It may not make sense, but that’s what happens when you have a giant roaming the court.
The Pointlessness of Drills
What’s the point of doing the Mikan drill when you’re 7’9″? We all did those drills growing up, but none of us were Rioux’s height. At that size, the only drills that matter are learning to catch and hold the ball high. Imagine Boban-ing everyone and holding the ball above your head – it’s a guaranteed dunk every time!
Give the Fans What They Want
Get Rioux on the floor during a blowout, and let the fans enjoy the spectacle. It’s a missed opportunity for college basketball, and it’s time to give the people what they want – more of this towering giant doing what he does best.
