The Post-Holiday Blues: Ranking the Most Dreaded Days of the Year
As I stepped out into the chilly 16-degree Chicago morning, I couldn’t help but wonder: what makes today so unbearable? The answer lies in the harsh reality of returning to work after a festive break. The excitement of holidays and sports events has worn off, leaving us with nothing but drudgery and monotony.
The Worst Day of the Year: A Close Second
While today may seem like the ultimate downer, it pales in comparison to the first day back at work after New Year’s. The holiday season is officially over, and the gloomy winter weather stretches out before us like an endless abyss. At least today, we can take comfort in the knowledge that Christmas is just around the corner.
The Day After the Super Bowl: A Monday to Forget
Coming in at a close third is the Monday following the Super Bowl. Not only do we have to bid farewell to football for six long months, but we’re also left to deal with the aftermath of a late night of revelry – hangovers, heartburn, and all. Add to that the bleak winter landscape, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster.
A Holiday Hangover: December 26
I’m not alone in my love for Christmas, but even the most ardent fans among us can’t deny the crushing disappointment that comes with waking up on December 26. The decorations still linger, a bittersweet reminder that the magic is over, and the dreaded first day back to work looms large on the horizon.
The Monday After Thanksgiving: A Harsh Reality Check
Rounding out the top five is the Monday after Thanksgiving. While the start of the holiday season brings some cheer, it’s hard to shake off the feeling of dread that comes with returning to the daily grind. The cold weather doesn’t help, either.
Tax Day: A Necessary Evil
Last but not least, we have April 15 – the deadline for submitting our taxes. It’s a day that fills many of us with anxiety and dread, a harsh reminder of our civic duties.
So, take a deep breath and push through today. Before you know it, the holiday season will be upon us once again, bringing with it all the joy and excitement we’ve been missing. Just try not to think about the three worst days of the year lurking in the shadows…
