Rising Star Baker Mayfield Gives Back to the Community
Baker Mayfield, the #1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, has achieved tremendous success in his career, with earnings exceeding $85 million. This past off-season, he signed a lucrative 3-year deal worth up to $115 million. But what sets him apart is his dedication to giving back to the community.
A Passion for Philanthropy
Mayfield’s charitable efforts are channeled through the Baker & Emily Mayfield Foundation, which provides programs, scholarships, and philanthropic opportunities to help individuals overcome life’s challenges and become their best selves. His foundation has made a significant impact, and one notable example is his donation to the Space Coast Vipers High School football team in Cocoa, Florida.
A Lifeline for a Struggling Team
The Vipers were facing a crisis last year, with a dismal 1-8 record and limited funds. Their season was on the brink of collapse due to worn-out helmets, with the team requiring 60-70 new ones. Coach’s mom, a die-hard Oklahoma Sooners fan, reached out to the Mayfields’ foundation for help, and her wish was granted. The Mayfields donated new helmets and gear, saving the team’s season.
A Bonding Experience
But Mayfield’s generosity didn’t stop there. His play became a unifying force for the team, with players’ families hosting watch parties to cheer on the quarterback who had saved their season. This bonding experience paid off, as the Vipers finished with an impressive 9-3 record and are now set to play in the SSAA 1A State Championship game this Friday at 7pm.
A Shining Example of Community Spirit
Baker Mayfield’s selfless act has inspired a community, demonstrating the power of sports to bring people together. As the Vipers take to the field this Friday, they’ll be wearing more than just new helmets – they’ll be carrying the spirit of gratitude and community pride.
