From Soft to Savage: The Reality Check Indiana Football Needs

The Soft Underbelly of College Football

Emerging Superpower or Just a Flash in the Pan?

As I bid farewell to Indiana, at least for the next three decades, my attention turns to more pressing matters – like taking down Michigan and claiming the National Championship. But before I consign the Hoosiers to the annals of history, I need to drive home a crucial point.

A Tale of Two Fanbases

If you’re going to boldly declare yourself the next big thing in college football, you can’t have a fanbase as soft as silk. Indiana’s recent antics against Ohio State are a perfect case in point. They orchestrated a late-game drive, went for two, and attempted an onside kick. When they didn’t get the onside kick, they got upset with Ohio State for running the ball down their throat into the end zone instead of kneeling out the clock.

Hypocrisy Abounds

I won’t delve into the details of why Indiana’s actions were misguided or how their coach, Cignetti, made a questionable comment. What’s important is that this behavior is not characteristic of college football powerhouses. In fact, it’s the opposite. I could rattle off numerous instances where top-tier teams like Ohio State, Georgia, or Alabama didn’t bat an eyelid when scoring late touchdowns.

A Lesson in Big Boy Football

Indiana fans and reporters need to understand that if you can’t stop us, don’t complain when we score. That’s how the game is played at the highest level. Instead of whining, focus on improving your team’s performance on the field. It’s clear that Indiana has a long way to go, not just in terms of football prowess but also mental toughness.

A Parting Shot

Take a cue from Gregg Doyle’s embarrassing tweet, which exemplifies the kind of naivety that plagues Indiana’s fanbase. “Risking injury and the teeth of the IU defense” are mutually exclusive concepts, Gregg. It’s time for Indiana to toughen up and play by the rules of big boy football.
