Freedom on Two Wheels
As a motorcycle enthusiast, I’ve always found solace in the thrill of the open road. There’s something liberating about the rush of wind, the roar of the engine, and the sense of adventure that comes with exploring new territories. Recently, I treated myself to a brand-new Ducati, and I’ve been itching to take it out for a spin.
Mind-Clearing Therapy
Riding has a way of clearing my mind, focusing my attention on the present moment, and washing away the distractions of daily life. During a recent trip to Tennessee, I was surprised to find that my screen time plummeted to a mere 45 minutes – a far cry from the nearly nine hours I typically spend glued to my phone in New York.
The Thrill of the Ride
Motorcycling is an exhilarating experience that demands your full attention. As comedian Tom Papa so aptly put it on Bert Kreischer’s podcast, the margin for error is razor-thin, requiring riders to be hyper-focused to avoid disaster. It’s this sense of vulnerability that makes the ride so thrilling.
The Unpredictability of Death Wobbles
But even with caution and skill, accidents can still happen. Take, for instance, the phenomenon of “death wobbles” or “tank slappers,” where the handlebars begin to shake uncontrollably, throwing the rider off balance. It’s a harrowing experience, as evidenced by a recent video of a rider who survived not only the initial crash but also slid under a truck – a feat that defies the odds.
A Brush with Fate
The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the risks involved in motorcycling. As I prepare to hit the road again this weekend, I can’t help but think of that rider’s incredible luck. Fingers crossed that if I do encounter any mishaps, I’ll be as fortunate.
The Open Road Awaits
For now, I’ll savor the freedom and thrill of the ride, knowing that every moment on two wheels is a gift. Thanks for joining me on this journey – until next time, when I’ll be back with more tales from the open road.
