Giants’ Decade of Disappointment: Time for a Reboot

The Harsh Reality of the Giants’ Struggles

It’s been an agonizing 12-year drought since the New York Giants last tasted success. And, according to rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, it’s about time someone spoke the truth. Nabers’ candid remarks may have ruffled a few feathers, but he’s spot on – the Giants desperately need an overhaul.

A Decade of Disappointment

Let’s take a closer look at the Giants’ first-round draft picks over the past decade. The results are nothing short of appalling:

  • 2014: Odell Beckham (12)
  • 2015: Ereck Flowers (9)
  • 2016: Eli Apple (10)
  • 2017: Evan Engram (23)
  • 2018: Saquon Barkley (2)
  • 2019: Daniel Jones (6) and Dexter Lawrence (17)
  • 2020: Andrew Thomas (4)
  • 2021: Kadarius Toney (20)
  • 2022: Kayvon Thiboudeaux (5) and Evan Neal (7)
  • 2023: Deonte Banks (24)
  • 2024: Malik Nabers (6)

The list reads like a who’s who of underachievers. Ereck Flowers, Eli Apple, and Evan Engram were all busts. Saquon Barkley, despite his talent, was a luxury pick at second overall. Daniel Jones has proven to be a liability under center. The few bright spots, like Dexter Lawrence and Andrew Thomas, are overshadowed by the sea of disappointment.

A Call to Action

Nabers’ frustration is palpable, and rightly so. The Giants have been stuck in neutral for far too long. It’s time to stop rotating through general managers and coaches, and instead focus on building a solid foundation. That starts with finding a competent quarterback and shoring up the offensive line. The Commanders, for example, turned their fortunes around in just one year with a new signal-caller. The Cardinals, too, made a swift change after just one season with Josh Rosen, opting for Kyler Murray instead.

Meanwhile, the Giants are still stuck in limbo, clinging to Daniel Jones despite his lack of progress. Nabers, for his part, has the talent to be a WR1, but even he can’t carry the team alone. It’s time for the Giants to take a hard look in the mirror and make some real changes. The fans deserve better.
