A New Chapter Unfolds
As I stepped out of Bendinelli’s, a wide grin spread across Bambi’s face. My persistence had paid off – Moose had agreed to let me crash on their couch. Despite our tumultuous past, our friendship remained unscathed. I followed Bambi to the Foxboro apartment, carefully carrying a table lamp from my trusty GOAT. Moose raised an eyebrow, remarking, “Oh, so you’ve come bearing gifts…” I shot back, “Fuck you! This is my lamp, and you still owe me money!” He gulped, inquiring about the amount, but I was just joking. Given his unexpected kindness, I let it slide.
Rekindling Old Times
As we settled in, we shared a few beers, smoked some weed, and reminisced about our wild adventures with Cindy, Mary, and Crazy Phil. Our carefree 20s had been filled with laughter and unforgettable stories, all beginning with “Remember when…” There was no lingering resentment between us, only a treasure trove of crazy memories.
A Bond Forged in Youth
Before Moose moved into my parents’ house in Sharon, I was close friends with his younger brother, Bambi. We graduated high school together in ’74, while Moose, four years our senior, had graduated with my sister. They were good friends, and I had shared some outrageous experiences with Bambi, earning him the nickname “Bambis Flambis” due to his impressive line of bull and charm with the ladies. Growing up with Moose, he learned to take care of himself and win people over, despite occasionally taking advantage of others.
A Helping Hand
By the time I woke up the next morning, Bambi had already found an affordable place for me to live in East Walpole, near Bird Park. The owner, a mechanic I knew from Cook Brothers Getty, had turned his house into a rental property after his divorce. For twenty-five bucks a week, I could have my own room on the second floor and share a bathroom with two other tenants. It wasn’t ideal, but it was a step up from my previous cellar dwelling.
A Lesson in Loyalty
I never found out what Jay and his brother told Len about the gram scale and the pound of weed stashed in the garage, but their weak excuse got me evicted. In contrast, Moose and Bambi would never betray a friend like that. They still held honor among thieves, a quality I admired.
A New Beginning
As I looked to the future, I knew that I had found a temporary haven with Moose and Bambi. They had given me a second chance, and I was determined to make the most of it. Little did I know, this was only the start of a new chapter in my life, filled with unexpected twists and turns.
