Commanders’ Reality Check: A Season of Ups and Downs

A Realistic View of the Commanders’ Season

As the dust settles on yesterday’s disappointing loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Commanders fans are reeling, and the rest of the NFL universe is quick to label them “frauds.” However, I’m taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture.

The Season’s Ups and Downs

Yes, the loss was ugly, and the Cowboys are indeed a struggling team. But let’s not forget that the Commanders are still sitting at 7-5, which is a remarkable achievement considering the circumstances. If someone had told me at the beginning of the season that we’d reach 7-2 at one point, I’d have been thrilled.

The Reality Check

We need to acknowledge that this is year one of a rebuild, and our roster is far from strong. Depth is a significant issue at most positions, and it’s unrealistic to expect miracles. The fact that we got to 7-2 was a pleasant surprise, but it was always going to be a temporary high.

The Overachievers

Our rookie starting QB, Jayden Daniels, has been a bright spot, but even he can’t compensate for the lack of talent around him. The O-line has been struggling, the WR corp is subpar, and the secondary is a liability. It’s no wonder that our 65 overall guys in Madden started to look like, well, 65 overall guys as the season wore on.

The WR Room: A Major Concern

Noah Brown, our number 2 WR, was the Texans’ number 4, which speaks volumes about our needs at the position. Dyami Brown hasn’t shown significant improvement, and Luke McCaffrey can’t seem to get on the field. Meanwhile, Zach Ertz’s flashes of brilliance are few and far between.

The O-Line Struggles

Combine our underwhelming WR room with an O-line that can’t protect Jayden Daniels, and you have a recipe for disaster. It’s no wonder that the drops are piling up and the offense is sputtering.

The Drafting Debacle

Ron Rivera’s drafting record is abysmal, with around 90% of his picks no longer on the team. We’ve had to start from scratch, but luckily, Jayden Daniels has been a beacon of hope.

The Big Picture

This team is not built to win right now, but they’ve exceeded expectations and shown us that they’ll be competing sooner rather than later. With $100 million in cap space and a new draft class on the horizon, the future looks brighter than the present. So let’s take a deep breath, remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day, and appreciate the progress we’ve made so far. Losing to the Cowboys stung, but I’m confident that we’ll be handing them beatings in the years to come. HTTC.
