The Smoke and Mirrors of Curt Cignetti
It’s time to face the music: Curt Cignetti’s coaching abilities have been grossly overstated. All week, I’ve been saying it – he’s been using sleight of hand to convince people he’s a top-tier coach. But today, the truth came to light.
A Pattern of Deception
Cignetti’s modus operandi has been to pad his resume by feasting on weaker opponents, namely FCS teams. This tactic has duped schools into paying him handsomely, without ever having to prove himself against top-notch competition. As someone who values substance over flash, I believe a coach should earn their stripes by coaching in at least one ranked game before receiving lavish extensions.
A Masterclass in Playing Not to Lose
Today’s game was a perfect example of Cignetti’s questionable tactics. Down 21 points in the second half, he punted on 4th and 10 from the opponent’s 43-yard line. Later, he attempted to run out the clock himself, and when that failed, he seemed to be begging Ohio State to take a knee. It was a pitiful display of coaching.
The Buck Stops with Cignetti
Make no mistake, Indiana’s loss today falls squarely on Cignetti’s shoulders. The special teams blunders, delay of games, penalties, and fumbles all point to poor coaching. It’s clear he was too busy perfecting his pregame and postgame speeches to focus on preparing his team to win.
A Message to Indiana Fans
To the fans of Indiana, I offer some sympathy. You’ve been dealt a tough hand, stuck with a subpar team in Bloomington, Indiana. It’s not your fault; you deserve better. But until you get a real football team, it’s hard to take your boasts seriously.
Shifting Focus to the Rival
Now that Indiana is out of the way, my attention turns to the real challenge ahead – our rival. It’s time for a fair fight, and I’m excited to see how it plays out. Bring it on!
