Bronny James Mania Hits the NBA
The rookie season has just begun, and already, one player is stealing the spotlight. Bronny James, son of the legendary LeBron James, has become an unlikely favorite among bettors to win the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award.
A Dark Horse Emerges
Despite being a second-round draft pick, James has attracted a surprising amount of betting interest. At FanDuel, 20% of all bets placed on the Rookie of the Year award have been on James, with his odds ranging from 250-1 to 1,000-1. This surpasses the action on more favored players, including Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey and Houston Rockets guard Reed Sheppard.
Outshining His Father
The interest in Bronny James extends beyond the Rookie of the Year award. At sportsbook BetMGM, there were seven times more bets on Bronny to win Rookie of the Year than on LeBron to win MVP. LeBron James, at 39 years old, is currently around 150-1 to win the regular-season MVP.
NBA Award Favorites
Meanwhile, Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic is the consensus betting favorite to win MVP at +375. Other top contenders include Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+400) and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic (+460). San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is the favorite to win both Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player.
A Family Affair
As the Lakers open their season against the Minnesota Timberwolves, fans are eager to see if Bronny and LeBron will take the court together. While coach JJ Reddick remains noncommittal on the matter, FanDuel is offering +250 odds on Bronny’s first NBA basket coming off an assist from LeBron. The world will be watching as this father-son duo takes the NBA by storm.
