New Hitting Coach Aims to Revitalize Twins’ Offense
In a move designed to shake up their struggling offense, the Minnesota Twins have appointed Matt Borgschulte as their hitting coach for the 2025 season. With a proven track record of success in his previous roles, Borgschulte is tasked with revitalizing a team that faltered at the plate in the latter stages of the 2024 campaign.
A Familiar Face Returns
Borgschulte, 33, is no stranger to the Twins organization, having spent three seasons as a hitting coach across various levels, including Triple-A St. Paul, High-A Fort Myers, and the Gulf Coastal League. His experience and familiarity with the team’s infrastructure are expected to be valuable assets in his new role.
Success in Baltimore
Before rejoining the Twins, Borgschulte spent three seasons as a co-hitting coach for the Baltimore Orioles, where he played a key role in shaping the team’s potent offense. In 2024, the Orioles finished second in the majors in home runs, third in slugging percentage, extra-base hits, and total bases, and fourth in runs scored.
A Much-Needed Boost
The Twins’ decision to part ways with their previous hitting coaches, Rudy Hernandez, David Popkins, and Derek Shomon, was prompted by the team’s dismal late-season hitting slump. Minnesota’s batting average of .218 in September was the second-worst in the majors, underscoring the need for a fresh approach.
A New Chapter
With Borgschulte at the helm, the Twins are looking to turn the page on their recent struggles and rediscover their offensive mojo. As the 2025 season approaches, fans will be eager to see whether the new hitting coach can make a tangible impact and help the team return to its winning ways.
