Raptors Roster Shuffle: Battle Earns Two-Way Deal, Three Players Waived
The Toronto Raptors have made significant roster moves ahead of their season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. Forward Jamison Battle has seen his contract converted to a two-way deal, while guards Jahmi’us Ramsey and Jared Rhoden, along with center Branden Carlson, have been waived.
Battle’s Breakout Performance
Battle, a 23-year-old undrafted free agent from Ohio State, impressed during the preseason, averaging 6.4 points per game in just 9.8 minutes of action. His shooting percentages were equally impressive, with a 54.5% field goal percentage and a remarkable 57.1% from beyond the arc. With RJ Barrett and Bruce Brown nursing injuries, Battle is expected to provide much-needed depth at the wing position.
Departing Players
Ramsey, a 23-year-old guard, played seven games for the Raptors last season, averaging 6.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. Despite being a second-round pick by the Sacramento Kings in 2020, Ramsey has struggled to find consistency in his young career. Rhoden, a 25-year-old forward, spent the past two seasons with the Detroit Pistons, averaging 4.1 points and 2.3 rebounds in 31 games. Carlson, an undrafted free agent from Utah, was on a two-way contract but failed to make an impact.
Contract Details
Battle’s two-way deal is a significant upgrade from his initial Exhibit 10 contract, which offered a minimum salary with optional bonuses but no compensation protection. The terms of his new deal have not been disclosed. The Raptors now have a full active roster of 15 players, along with three two-way players.
Season Opener Looms
With their roster finalized, the Raptors are set to face the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. As they begin their new campaign, fans will be eager to see how Battle and the rest of the team perform in the competitive Eastern Conference.
