Oklahoma State Quarterback Sidelined with Upper-Body Injury
A significant setback has hit the Oklahoma State football team, as quarterback Garret Rangel will be out for an undetermined period due to an upper-body injury sustained during the game against No. 13 BYU.
Rangel’s Impressive Performance Cut Short
Rangel, who started in place of Alan Bowman, had a promising outing before his injury. He completed 6 of 9 passes for 51 yards, scoring a touchdown and throwing an interception. Additionally, he rushed for 77 yards on just five carries, showcasing his versatility. Unfortunately, his 54-yard run was followed by an injury that forced him to leave the game.
Coach Gundy’s Assessment
Coach Mike Gundy confirmed that Rangel will be out “a while” but did not specify the nature of the injury. However, it was reported by Oklahoma State radio that Rangel suffered a collarbone injury. Gundy also expressed uncertainty about when the redshirt sophomore would return to action.
Bowman Steps In
With Rangel sidelined, seventh-year senior Alan Bowman will take over as the starting quarterback. Bowman, who led the offense in 2023 during Oklahoma State’s surprise run to the Big 12 championship game, has struggled with accuracy and consistency this season. Despite these challenges, he managed to lead the go-ahead touchdown drive in the eventual 38-35 loss to BYU, passing for 85 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Adjusting to the Loss
The Oklahoma State team will need to adapt quickly to Rangel’s absence. With Bowman at the helm, the offense will look to regroup and find its rhythm once again. As the season progresses, the team’s ability to adjust to this setback will be crucial in determining their success.
