Uncertainty Surrounds Haynes King’s Status for Virginia Tech Game
Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key has yet to determine whether injured quarterback Haynes King will be ready to take the field against Virginia Tech on Saturday. King was forced to sit out last week’s 31-13 loss to No. 12 Notre Dame due to an apparent right shoulder injury.
Day-to-Day Status Remains Unchanged
Despite initial concerns that King may be out for an extended period, Key emphasized that his quarterback’s status remains day-to-day. “There’s been zero call made on that, zero,” Key said firmly. “He’s day-to-day. Are we preparing the other guys to play? Yes. Have we ruled him out? No.”
Zach Pyron Steps Up in King’s Absence
In King’s absence, Zach Pyron made his first start since his 2022 freshman season and put on a solid performance. Pyron completed 20 of 36 passes for 269 yards, including one touchdown and two interceptions. Key praised Pyron’s efforts, saying, “I was very proud of him for the way he went and performed.”
King’s Dual-Threat Skills Sorely Missed
King’s ability to make plays with both his arm and legs has been a crucial aspect of Georgia Tech’s offense this season. With a 5-3 overall record and 3-2 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Yellow Jackets will need all hands on deck to stay competitive. Whether King will be available to contribute against Virginia Tech remains to be seen.
Preparing for All Scenarios
As the team prepares for Saturday’s matchup, Key and his coaching staff are leaving no stone unturned. While they hope to have King back under center, they are also readying their backup quarterbacks for potential action. One thing is certain: Georgia Tech will need a strong team effort to come out on top against Virginia Tech.
