Week 7 Fantasy Football: Valuing David Montgomery, George Pickens & Dolphins WRs

Fantasy Football Reality Check

As fantasy football managers, we often get caught up in overthinking every aspect of the game. From lineup decisions to trades, and even what snacks to bring to the tailgating party, it’s easy to get lost in the details. But sometimes, we just need to take a step back, breathe, and remember that it’s just a game.

The Overhyped and the Underrated

Take the Detroit Lions’ running back duo, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, for example. While Gibbs was the prized possession of many fantasy drafts, Montgomery has quietly outperformed him so far this season. With 7.3 more PPR points and more touches, Montgomery is proving to be a reliable starter. Yet, many still view him as a flash in the pan, while Gibbs is seen as the future star. Perhaps it’s time to reassess our expectations.

Shifting Focus

Another player who deserves more attention is George Pickens, the Steelers’ wide receiver. With Russell Wilson taking over at quarterback, Pickens is poised for a breakout. He already ranks third among all WRs in percentage of team targets, and with Wilson’s accurate deep passes, the sky’s the limit.

Don’t Get Caught Up in the Hype

On the other hand, don’t fall for the temptation to buy low on Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle just because Tua Tagovailoa might return soon. The Dolphins’ quarterback situation is uncertain, and even when healthy, Tagovailoa’s production is often overrated. Waddle, in particular, is a WR who has failed to impress, and Hill’s value is closely tied to his quarterback’s performance.

Stay Grounded, Stay Successful

In fantasy football, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of a big game or the promise of a breakout player. But the key to success lies in making practical decisions, staying calm, and enjoying the ride. So, take a deep breath, reassess your lineup, and remember that it’s just a game.
