Dolphins Coach Expects Star Running Back to Return from Concussion
Miami Gardens, FL – In a boost to the Miami Dolphins’ offense, coach Mike McDaniel is confident that running back De’Von Achane will clear concussion protocol in time to face the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
Achane’s Road to Recovery
Achane was diagnosed with a concussion during the Dolphins’ Week 5 victory over the New England Patriots and was automatically placed into the league’s return-to-participation protocol. However, he has made significant progress, shedding his red non-contact jersey and practicing in full on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Final Hurdle
McDaniel revealed that Achane’s full clearance hinges on an evaluation by an independent neurological consultant after Friday’s practice. Despite this, the coach is optimistic about Achane’s chances of receiving clearance, barring any unforeseen setbacks. The second-year back was present during the portion of Friday’s practice open to the media and appeared to be a full participant.
McDaniel’s Verdict
When asked about Achane’s prospects, McDaniel replied, “Would I say I’m optimistic? Absolutely. I don’t have a crystal ball, but something would have to go wrong today for me not to feel good about it.”
The Impact of Achane’s Return
Achane’s return would be a significant boost to the Dolphins’ offense, which rushed for a season-high 193 yards against the Patriots. The running back leads the team with 369 scrimmage yards on a team-high 77 touches and is the only Dolphins player with multiple touchdowns this season. His impressive rookie campaign saw him rack up 997 scrimmage yards and 11 touchdowns in 2023.
